Guest article by Ellie Smith on Leather Christmas Decor

It is that time of the year, isn’t it? Time for sitting around a table with the whole family, making some Christmas decorations. Why not make something like the cute leather christmas trees made by guest author Ellie Smith, who is a specialist in interior design and Chesterfield furniture:

Each year we decorate our houses with the same trimmings and festive decor – with possibly pulling out the usual old clutter year and year again. This usually consists of gold or green tinsel with matching baulbles and a pretty looking angel that screams typical Christmas.

Fancy something unique and different this year? Add a little sophistication to your living room with homemade leather decor. It is quite easy to create your own decorations from scrap leather- see the ideas below and get creating.

Leather baubles

Mould together scraps of leather and suede and keep layering them on top of each other until you have a tight ball- almost like a cricket ball. You can coat the balls in wax or just use a strong glue to hold it together. Bind together with sparkly string to give it a super Christmas sparkle and add sequins if you wish.

Christmas trees

Carefully cut out Christmas tree shapes from soft leather and pierce a whole at the top of the tree. You can also decorate these with jewels and sequins to add a lot of sparkle and jazz. If you are really creative, cut out a leather reindeer and place a piece of red fabric on the tip of its nose to distinguish Rudolf.

You can also find some smart pieces on the high street that will make your festive home stand out.

Pouches

You can put together gift pouches by putting together the material and dying separate sections of the pouch with red, green and yellow die. Tie the ends with leather or string and place together.
Instead of using tinsel around the Christmas tree- why not try and wrap scraps of leather around your tree to give an original and authentic look.

Get creative this Christmas and see what you can come up with. It’s fun and unique so why bother buying the same as everyone else. Find scrap leather and get to work!!
