Finding your haven in your home
Balancing work, marriage, parenting and social life; with the endless task of maintaining your Dynamic Family Home, with the decluttering, cleaning, cooking, organizing, and renovating when needed, can be extremely demanding. When planning your home you shouldn’t just consider the children’s need for private space, but your own as well! Being a member of a Dynamic Family means there’s always people around you. Granted they’re all people you love, but still it is nice – not to say necessary – to have some silence and tranquility in your life also.
When planning the renovation of our house I kept this in mind, and now I have the luxury of my own personal space in the attic where I can withdraw from the high pace of everyday life to recharge my batteries. (My husband and children have their own personal space as well, mind you.) In my room up in the attic I have a home office – where I write and maintain this web-page; a yoga mat – where I do my daily stretching exercises; my very favorite books and a huge comfy chair – where I sit to read given the time. It is a place where I can truly relax, get inspired, get some work done, get some reading done, or simply be alone.

Now, maybe you are the kind of person who don’t ever need privacy from your family (although I doubt it since you’re still reading). I firmly believe that most people need some personal space once in a while, even though our fast paced and noisy culture effectively repress this side of human nature. Perhaps it doesn’t need to be as exclusive as my room in the attic; perhaps you’re comfortable with sharing your space with your spouse, or just picking a quiet corner somewhere more public. That’s fine. But the need for some place you can call your own; to relax, to read, listen to music or whatever helps you unwind, should not be overlooked! In the end it benefits the whole Dynamic Family.
