Garden plans (part 1)

It’s normally a good idea to finish one project before starting a new one, and we are currently redoing our storage areas, but in this case we don’t feel like waiting! It is already summer and we would love to get the garden in shape before it’s all over. These precious months go by sooo quickly in the northern hemisphere (she said with a hint of green envy). Last fall we changed the drainage pipes and basements windows (read about it here) just in time for winter and this part of our garden now looks like this:

You can see the new basement windows on the picture to the left and I’m guessing you understand why we’re eager to get started (or actually; get finished!). When we changed the drainage system we also removed part of the hedge separating ours’ and the neighbors’ garden, and although they are great people(!) it would be nice to get our privacy back. The neighbors and we agree on removing the remainder of the hedge (a thorny Barberry Shrubs which has grown huge over the years) and replace it with a screen wall and fence. On our side we plan to build a deck as illustrated in the sketch below and combine it with the screen wall.

If you look closely this is actually a sneak-peak preview of the new ground floor plan, with a new entrance area and larger kitchen etc. which I will discuss in more detail later. For now it will be great to get the opposite part of the garden in working order. For updates on the building process and results you’ll have to return later, as of now this is only on the drawing board.

I felt I couldn’t very well have a post about our garden without some closeups of our flowers, and I also wanted to show you the sunflower project of the children and where it’s at.
